"Socioeconomic status [SES] has long been considered a determinant of academic achievement, influencing students' access to resources, educational opportunities, and overall success. The study aimed to investigate whether academic success differs among UC-Banilad Bachelor of Science in Business Administration [BSBA] students from various socioeconomic backgrounds and to explore how academic success is influenced by socioeconomic status. It sought to determine the participants' socioeconomic profile in terms of their parents' highest educational attainment, parents employment status, and average combined monthly family income; identify the participants' level of academic success based on their General Weighted Average (GWA); examine the study habits most practiced by the research participants; determine whether there is a significant relationship between socioeconomic status and the academic success of the participants, and propose a psychoeducational program based on the results of the study. The study employed a descriptive correlational research design that utilized a standardized survey questionnaire to examine the relationship between socioeconomic background and academic success, as well as the study habits most practiced by BSBA students at the University of Cebu-Banilad. A sample of two hundred fifty-five (255) was selected using Cochran's Formula and stratified random sampling. The research was conducted at the University of Cebu-Banilad. The study gathered the General Weighted Average [GWA] and utilized a modified survey questionnaire to assess the level of academic success of BSBA students as well as their sociodemographic profile. The results gathered from the participants were analyzed using weighted mean, frequency, and Chi-square test.
The findings revealed that most of the students practice giving consistent efforts towards studying as an effective study habit that could help them achieve academic success. Furthermore, there is no significant relationship between the socioeconomic status [SES] of the BSBA students and their level of academic success. These findings imply that although socioeconomic status may affect a student's ability to acquire resources, it does not always predict academic achievement for UC-Banilad BSBA students. A proposed psychoeducation program was created." —Abstract
