Tourism creates jobs, generates revenues for the local community, promotes cultural exchange, improves infrastructure, and acts as a vehicle for environmental protection and preservation. This study assessed the contributions of beach resorts in Compostela, Cebu to the residents to help them receive practical benefits.
This study utilized the descriptive-correlation research design with the use of a researcher-made questionnaire as the primary tool for gathering data. There were a total of 107 randomly chosen respondents from Barangay Estaca and Barangay Canamucan Compostela, Cebu. Statistical treatments used for data analysis were simple percentage in profiling the respondents, weighted mean in assessing the contribution of the beach resorts, and Pearson R and Chi-Square to test the null hypothesis.
The findings revealed that the majority of the respondents were between 18-22 years old, females, single, and were college level. The null hypothesis was rejected since there was a significant relationship between the profiles of the respondents specifically in age, gender, and educational attainment and the perceived contribution of beach resorts. The residents agreed that beach resorts indeed contribute to them regarding corporate social responsibility and animation services but disagreed regarding job and business opportunity. To be a positive force in the lives of the residents and to be great contributor to tourism, beach resorts should provide practical benefits in the form of job and business opportunity.
