Summary: This study aimed to identify the various supernatural elements in selected Philippine folktales such as environmental spirits, ancestral spirits, mystical retribution, sorcery and witchcraft, and nature spirits as to their relevance to education. Samples of Philippine folktales from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao were then analyzed in the context of figures of speech, themes, symbolism, and values. the researcher's analysis and interpretation of data were supported by the analysis committee, which is composed of teachers who had taught literature subjects for not less than four (4) years.The descriptive-appreciative method was used in the analysis and interpretation. The findings showed that supernatural elements are present among selected Philippine folktales. Their prevalence in folk literature is of primary importance as it decorates the language with figurative meanings, presents thematic considerations in the context of local culture, conveys depth of expressions through symbols, and reinforces local viewpoints through its teaching of values.Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that the enriched course syllabus be used at the University of Cebu-College of Education for a better appreciation of the richness of local folklore.
