Summary, etc Summary: The study determined the effectiveness of malunggay and bayabas extracts on wound healing with the use of two rabbits as our subjects. The study was based on Madeleine Leininger's Transcultural Theory. According to the theory "Cultural care involves those facets of culture that deal with individual and group health and well being, including efforts to improve upon the human condition or to deal with illness, handicaps, or death"
THE PROBLEM
Statement of the Problem
This study determined the effectiveness of malunggay and bayabas extract wound healing, the findings of which was the basis for a proposed seminar.
Specifically, it answered the following questions:
1.) What is the effect of malunggay and bayabas extract on:
1.1) Wound Length Closure;
1.2) Exudates;
1.3) Wound Color?
2.) Is there a significant difference in the wound length closure of both rabbits' treated with malunggay and bayabas extracts?
3.) Based on the findings of the study, what seminar may be proposed?
Statement of the Null Hypothesis
There is no significant difference in the wound length closure of both rabbits treated with malunggay and bayabas extracts.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The study utilized Quasi-experimental time series with multiple institutions of treatment. The experimental was held at Tisa Hills Labangon Cebu City wherein the 2 subjects were placed on different cages in a controlled environment. The subjects were labeled rabbit A ans rabbit B. Both subjects had a 5 cm incision on their both thighs. Rabbit A was treated with guava and rabbit B was treated with malunggay.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
During the course of the experiment data was collected from the subjects basing on the average wound length closure of both wounds with malunggay and bayabas extract. With a computed value of 0.23 and a critical value of 1.734 tested at 0.05 level of significance in which the null hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, there is no significant difference in the wound length closure of both rabbits treated with malunggay and bayabas extracts.
CONCLUSION
Based on our 10 day observation, the findings had revealed that the rabbit treated with malunggay extract started its healing process as evidenced by wound closure on the 3rd day of wound care. While on the other hand, the rabbit treated with guava extract started its healing process on the 4th day of wound care as evidenced by wound closure and manifested a cleaner scar in contrary to malunggay extract. There is no significant difference between both herbal extracts healing capacity and that both can be of alternative use in terms of wound care.
RECOMMENDATION
Basing on this study, we recommend a seminar on the effectiveness of Guava and Malunggay extracts as alternative means for wound healing.
