Summary, etc Summary: This study ascertained the mentoring activities of senior nurses and the performance of nurse trainees. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: What are the mentoring activities exhibited by the senior nurses? What is the performance of nurse trainees? Is there a significant relationship between the mentoring activities exhibited by the senior nurses and the performance of the senior nurses? The proposed output would be a training course designed to improve the mentoring activities of the senior nurses.<br/><br/>This study will utilized the descriptive-correlational design using a researcher-made questionnaire. The research study was conducted as St. Vincent General Hospital, Cebu City. The research subjects were the 30 senior nurses while the respondents were the 30 nurse trainees who underwent training program in the said institution from January to April, 2011. The data gathered were statistically treated using simple percentage, weighted mean and Pearson -r.<br/><br/>Based on the key findings of the study, the mentoring activities exhibited by the senior nurses included those that reflect their roles as standard prodder, model and envisioner. The respondents performance was satisfactory. There was a significant relationship between the mentoring activities exhibited by the senior nurses and the performance of the respondents. The researcher concluded that performance of nurse trainees was dependent on the mentoring activities of the senior nurses. Anchored on these findings, the researcher recommended the following: for future researchers to delve on studies that involve mentoring abilities of experts and the motivational factors affecting the novices in the nursing discipline; to monitor the performance of nurse trainees and require very satisfactory rating as basis for hiring; and, to implement a training course for the senior nurse.
