Summary, etc Abstract: The COVID 19 pandemic has caused repercussions in the global economy. In the Philippines, some students have financial difficulties attending online classes due to financial instability and poor Internet connection. This study determined the comparison between costs of face-to-face and online classes to formulate a framework of cost analysis and to aid in the knowledge of financial literacy and awareness of students and the university.
There was a total of three hundred nine (309) respondents who were third years and fourth years students, particularly under the College of Business and Accountancy department of University of Cebu - Banilad Campus first semester S.Y. 2021-2022, who experienced both online and face-to-face learning modalities. A descriptive-comparative design was used under the quantitative design in determining the cost perspectives of face-to-face and online class learning. The researchers made sure that ethical principles and professionalism were upheld throughout the conduct of the study. Moreover, a survey questionnaire was used via online/mail survey as its data gathering technique. This study also used purposive sampling. For data analysis, percentage, t-tes, chi-square test of independence was utilized.
This research revealed that most of the respondents were in the age range 20 to 22 years old. The majority of them were female and enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and stayed at their home address. The cost of housing and accommodation, food, transportation, Internet, school supplies, and school fees/expenses for both face-to-face and online classes were very low. There was also a significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and the cost incurred in face-to-face classes and the profile of the respondents and the cost incurred in an online class. Studying in the comfort of their home help students incur less costs. Despite the changes in the cost aspects, students are still financially in both face-to-face or online learning.
