Summary, etc Abstract: Businesses play an important role since they are well-known for their considerable contributions to advancing the Philippine economy toward sustainable development in terms of job creation, poverty reduction, and the supply of products and services. The study aimed to assess the status of the businesses in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This research applied the descriptive research method and was conducted among the selected Department of Trade and Industry [DTI] registered businesses operating in Barangay Canduman Mandaue City, Cebu. The respondents were the 227 managers of registered business establishments. They are chosen using the random sampling technique, specifically the fishbowl method. This study further utilized an adopted instrument from Asian Development Bank [ADB] to gather important information regarding the status of the business establishments during the coronavirus disease [COVID-19] pandemic. Different statistical treatment was used to analyze the data, these were the frequency and simple percentage and one-way ANOVA.
The results revealed that the businesses in Canduman are in the form of sole proprietorship and have existed for 11-15 years in the industry. The business conditions after the ECQ are implemented still open but limited. The status of their operations revealed that work from home is not possible for any workers, businesses provided Personal protective equipment to their employees, experienced severe bottlenecks, prices of goods / raw materials have become too expensive is the reason of the business's bottlenecks, the financial condition is already no cash, and financial problem because of rent. the status of the businesses' funding revealed that to maintain their businesses, they used their own funds/retained profits; the sources to start their businesses is to do loans/overdraft/line of credit from banks, (76%-100%) of employees in Barangay Canduman who are residing in the same municipality, and volume of the orders of the businesses decrease after ECQ. The status of sales and profits of the businesses decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, there is a significant difference in the status of the businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic to a business profile.
On the other hand, the null hypothesis was rejected. It implies that they have different statuses on their businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. This simply means that when the coronavirus [COVID-19] pandemic occurs, there are a lot of changes happened in their businesses. Therefore, there are businesses that sustained and maintained their operations, there are businesses that struggled to sustain but still operating, and there are also businesses that did not. Furthermore, the researchers recommended that the output of the study, which is the developed intervention scheme, will be adopted and implemented. It is highly recommended to conduct a study on intervention schemes on a wider scope to represent the businesses better to gain more detailed information.
