520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc The nursing and midwifery workforce has been unprecedented and will be felt for along time to come. The crisis has also laid bare and exacerbated longstanding problems faced by nurses and midwives, including inequalities, inadequate working conditions and chronic excessive work pressure. The rapid and undetected spread of COVID-19 and the (potentially) relatively high mortality rate from COVID-19 related pneumonia have combined to create the current pandemic crisis, which is impacting greatly on health. economics, and social life on a global scale. Massive medical manpower and resources have been invested in the prevention and treatment to severe pneumonia, increasing the burdens on, and even threatening the exhaustion of healthcare systems across the world. Restrictions on normal life, trade activities, and travel as well as well lockdowns of cities and countries to prevent the spread of COVID-19 have severely impacted that world economy, threatening an economic depression. The health and wellbeing of nurses and midwives are essential to the quality of care they can provide for people and communities, affecting their compassion, professionalism and effectiveness. Ensuring that working conditions across all settings - in primary, secondary, mental health, community and social care - are supporting nurses and midwives in their work is fundamental to ensuring the best outcomes for people who need health and care services. This book focuses on their work life experience and what needs to be done to address the problems they face.
