"Street food vendor's significantly contributes to Cebu City's informal economic sector, offering affordable meals while supporting the livelihoods of informal entrepreneurs. However, street vendors often face financial instability due to fluctuating income, limited access to formal financial services, and lack of budgeting knowledge. This study explores how street food vendors manage their financial budgeting amidst socio-economic challenges, contributing to a deeper understanding of their coping strategies and financial behavior. Using behavioral economics and social capital theory, the study aims to highlight the importance of strengthening financial literacy among marginalized groups. <br/>This study used a descriptive phenomenological design to capture the lived experiences of twelve (12) DTI-registered street food vendors in Cebu City with at least three years of business operations. The researchers conducted qualitative, in-depth interviews guided by open-ended questions focused on budgeting habits, income allocation, savings practices, and financial decision-making. The data underwant thematic analysis, extracting meaningful patterns and themes that reflect the vendors' budgeting narratives and financial management approaches. The study was conducted in densely populated vendor areas within Cebu City, chosen for their high concentration of active street food businesses. Findings showed that vendors use informal budgeting practices like daily capital rolling, precautionary savings, and reinvestment of excess income. Despite their ingenuity, many face difficulties such as emergency expenses, inconsistent earnings, and reliance on loan sharks. Vendors also demonstrated resilience by adjusting expenses based on capital and maintaining modest savings habits. The study concluded that while vendors practice adaptive budgeting techniques, stronger financial literacy support is needed. A financial education primer was proposed to empower street vendors with better decision-making skills and long-term financial resilience." --Abstract |
