"This research aimed to determine the correlation between levels of knowledge, awareness, and practices regarding pneumococcal vaccination among senior citizens in Sitio Seaside, Barangay Inayawan. The study employed an inferential statistics research design using binary logistics. Forty participants, aged 60 to 80 years old, were selected from the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) list for assessing knowledge, awareness. and practices. The findings indicated that increased knowledge about pneumonia among senior citizens had a minimal effect on vaccine uptake rates. Specifically, an odds ratio of 1.009 for "Knowledge Score" meant a 0.9% increase in the odds of having a "Yes" to vaccine practice level for every one-unit increase in knowledge. However, the high p-value of 0.978 showed that the impact of "Knowledge Score" on vaccine practice was not statistically enhanced the odds of vaccine uptake. A large odds ratio of 7,598x107 for "Awareness Score" suggested that for every one-unit increase, the odds of a "Yes" practice level increased by over 75 million. Despite this large odds ratio, the p-value was extremely high at 0.995. This indicated that the effect of "Awareness Score" on the odds of a "Yes" practice level was also not statistically significant. The study concluded that while there was an increased odds of vaccine uptake, neither factor demonstrated a statistically significant impact in the study population. Knowledge had only a minimal effect on vaccination practices. While a direct relationship was not definitively established, the results suggest a public health practices regarding pneumococcal vaccination in the said site. These findings collectively imply that while promoting knowledge and awareness remains important, other factors may exert a more critical influenceon vaccine uptake among senior citizens and warrant exploration in future research. --Background of the study |
