"With the integration of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, the study sought to determine how physicians, from a tertiary hospital in Mandaue City, Cebu, perceived the effectiveness and efficiency of teleconsultation in their practice. Descriptive quantitative design was employed and data were gathered from 80 consultants across specializations using stratified random sampling. The study collected information on physician's demographics, experiences, and viewpoints regarding the advantages, limitations, and sustainability of teleconsultations. Out of the 80 responses, 67 responses were valid and proceeded to further analysis. Findings revealed 83.8% of physicians used teleconsultation during the pandemic; however, 77.5% still preferred in-person consultations because they could not do physical examinations with their patients. Fast patient access and shorter consultation times were cited as key benefits; nevertheless, drawbacks such as platform inefficiencies and decreased diagnostic confidence were also observed. While female physicians showed slightly higher acceptance, older physicians were less likely to believe that teleconsultation was efficient to use. Moderate positive correlation (r = 0.593, p < 0.001) was observed between perceived effectiveness and actual use of teleconsultation. Although teleconsultation showed the potential to increase access to care; its long-term viability required better infrastructure, physician's training, integration with current healthcare workflows." —Abstract |
