"In the Philippines, where social economic status (SES) is an important aspect to how Filipinos receive healthcare, a concerning population do not receive some, if not all, aspects of Primary Health Care (PHC) due to a multifaceted barrier. These barriers range from financial burdens and geographical isolation, to existing sociocultural norms. It is through Universal Health Care (UHC) where these barriers are addressed through various systematic methodologies that differ for each country, that focuses on the goal that Primary Health Care is seen as a basic human right and not a privilege reserved for a few. <br/><br/>UHC stands as a critical goal for countries seeking to build resilient health systems and protect their populations, but the rudimentary, and on-going improvement of the healthcare system in the Philippines by the UHC Act of 2019 will not go without facing a few barriers that the Filipinos are facing today.<br/><br/>Primary Health Care and Universal Health Care are two different things. Universal Health Care (UHC) focuses more on health financing and systematic approaches in delivering equal and accessible rights to PHC. PHC, on the other hand, entails the provision of healthcare services in levels of promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative. But it is only through the equity and access of PHC can UHC truly be achieved (Sturmberg & Martin, 2021). With the Philippines at the state of improving the provision of PHC in line with the policy of the UHC Act of 2019, often times it is difficult to understand the cause of these problems because there is a gap that needs to be addressed at the level between inter-sectoral coordination, within managerial, administrative, and supervisory capacity from the executive level down to the facility level in the country’s health care providers. <br/>Health Service Providers (HSPs) are at the forefront of the PHC. Professional health care providers are the invaluable assets that run the cogs of the healthcare system in the Philippines. As direct providers of health services, the political know-how and technical knowledge are important in moving forward the long-term policy engagement of the UHC in the Philippines in regards to one of the four pillars that comprise an effective and quality health systems; name Stewardship, Financing , Creating Resource and Delivery System (Darrudi, et al. 2022)" --Background of the study |
