"Calculus is one of the most important inventions of modern mathematics As a theory, the rigor and aesthetics of a typical mathematical discourse. However, theories, it is directly in the center of various practical and coal-world applications, Calculus lends itself in virtually almost all scientific fields of the contemporary world. It is now recognized as one of the primary tools any professional and scientist must have<br/><br/>From the abstract problems such as finding areas and volumes of arbitrary regions and spaces approximating values of the function, and predicting the behavior of "well-behaved functions, to applied questions in mechanics, business and economics, engineering and so on, Calculus has pro to be a necessary part of a solver's toolbox. Undeniably, it has become a requisite in modern-day problem solving<br/><br/>This is why the introduction of the subject in the basic education curriculum is a welcome development. At an early stage, aspiring scientists, engineers, mathematicians and professionals will be introduced to what will become one of their lifelong tools. They are expected to gain mastery of the basic and fundamental concepts of the course such as the notion of limits, derivatives and integrals - concepts to which all of calculus is based. This will pave the way for a more rigorous treatment of the subject, both on its theoretical and applied aspects once they enter higher education institutions<br/><br/>However, this course requires a good grasp of the basics. To fully understand and appreciate the subject, students must have a good command of General Mathematics and Precalculus. They must be able to perform operations on algebraic and some transcendental expressions. This includes but is not limited to the basic operations, polynomial factorization, exponentiation, taking of logarithms, evaluation of trigonometric and circular functions and their inverses, and solving equations involving polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, logarithmic, absolute value, circular and inverse circular functions. They must also be knowledgeable about functions: both algebraic and transcendental, their domain and range, inverses, and graphs. Teachers are highly encouraged to ensure that their students are familiar with these topics. They may devote the first week of the course with a refresher on these prerequisites" —Preface |
