"The quality of romantic relationships significantly impacts individuals' emotional well-being and overall life satisfaction; however, these relationships can be notably correlated by underlying attachment styles developed early in life. Despite the recognized importance of attachment, research specifically examining its connection to romantic relationship satisfaction among Filipino young adults is limited. This study aims to sought the relationship between adult attachment styles (secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized) and satisfaction in romantic relationships (encompassing emotional connection, communication, intimacy, and shared activities and interests) among psychology students at the University of Cebu-Banilad.<br/><br/>This study utilized a quantitative research methodology to explore the correlation between adult attachment types and satisfaction in romantic relationships. The participants of the study consisted of 250 psychology students from the University of Cebu-Banilad, fulfilling the inclusion criteria: currently in a romantic relationship and single individuals for a month at the time of the study with experience in relationships. Data were collected using a modified research questionnaire assessing both the respondents' attachment styles (secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized) and their levels of satisfaction across four key relationship domains emotional connection, communication, intimacy, and shared activities and interests. Ethical considerations were implicitly addressed through informed consent and ensuring anonymity of responses.<br/><br/>The research findings revealed that individuals who reported high relationship satisfaction were more likely to exhibit a secure attachment style. In contrast, those with anxious, avoidant, or disorganized attachment styles showed lower satisfaction levels, particularly in areas such as emotional connection and communication. The findings suggest that awareness of one's attachment style can help individuals foster healthier romantic relationships. Understanding attachment-related behaviors may also guide interventions for improving relationship satisfaction. Furthermore, relationship counselors and psychologists may use these insights to develop strategies for enhancing emotional connection, communication, and intimacy among couples." —Abstract |
