"This book focuses on the values of studying the applied social sciences, particularly Counselling, Social Work, and Communication. The applied social sciences are rooted in the social sciences, which expose us to the realities and challenges of life. Through the tools and theories of the social sciences, we can better understand and appreciate the interplay of society, politics, and government. The social sciences also prepare us in leading our respective communities and even our nation.<br/><br/>The applied social sciences, including Counselling, Social Work, and Communication, rely heavily on the theories and methods of the social sciences to understand and critically study society and the relationships among individuals, groups, and communities. The tools and methods of the applied social sciences help us examine social issues through research. The applied social sciences also help us face the most pressing social, economic, political, demographic, and environmental problems of our time. Through doing these, we are able to fully maximize our potentials and serve society in the best way we can.<br/><br/>The textbook contains discussions and activities that will help students gain an extensive and deep understanding of the concepts, practices, and tools in the applied social sciences. It also highlights the careers and the professionals in the applied social sciences, showing how these disciplines help develop a wide range of fields. Finally, the book's Discussion and the Performance Tasks components can help students apply what they have learned, and use the applied social sciences to reflect on and solve issues in their school, family, and community.<br/><br/>It is hoped that by the time learners have finished reading this book, they would have become more critical and analytical of society, their surroundings, and interactions with other people.
