Summary, etc Summary: Internship provides opportunities for students to gain experience in their field. The experience is intended to help the student close the gap between school and work.
This study assessed the impact of the practicum program to the Bachelor of Science in Tourism students in the University of Cebu- Banilad and the problems they have encountered durin the practicum. It utilized the descriptive-correlation research design using the researcher-made questionnaire. Purposive sampling was used in which the respondents were seventy-three (73) BST students. Simple percentage formula, weighted mean, and chi-square were used as statistical treatment to analyze the data.
The findings showed that majority of the respondents were female at the age bracket 20-24 years old. It also showed that the practicum program has an impact on the students intellectual enrichment, affective aspect, social dimension, and theories acquired in their academic studies. Additionally, there were problems that were encountered during the practicum in terms of insufficient training, unnecessary tasks in enhancing their skills, and approachable employees, the workplace were not accessible to any type of transportation, and the companies policy were very strict. Lastly, there has no significant relationship between the respondents profile and their assessment on the impact and the problems they encountered during the practicum. In conclusion, the practicum program has a big impact to the student's learning. Therefore, both the practicum program and the cooperating companies helped contribute to the overall growth and development of the students.
