Summary, etc Summary: Grammar is part of the second language acquisition. It is necessary and sufficient for the students to construct correct sentences, to understand them, to monitor grammatical errors, to pass judgements about the right and wrong linguistic forms and to perform language task. It is an essential communication tool both in speaking and written language. It helps learner to identify grammatical forms and its role in aiming to enhance and sharpen the expression and meaning.<br/>The primary purpose of this study was to determine the grammatical competence of the grade 10 students through identifying their competences in the areas of subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and punctuation. This study utilized a descriptive correlation design using a modified and adopted questionnaire to test their reliability of the grammar context, its accuracy and precision.<br/>The result showed that students were having difficulty in grammar specifically in subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and punctuation.It was being manifested that most students were poor in their grammatical competence. Likewise, there was no significant relationship between verb- tenses and punctuation as well as in subject-verb agreement and punctuation. However, it was concluded that English teachers should use the universal language as medium of instruction to improve the grammatical competency of the students. It was also been recommended that teachers of English language subjects should do an activity like writing a diary to enhance the students grammatical competence, and students should strictly uses the English only Policy in the school to expose from the English language, and having a tutorial.
