Summary: Nursing practice in all setting involves a wide range of skills, and of which are used in the care of most clients. This study aimed to explore the performance of nursing students to determine areas of strength and improvements. A descriptive-correctional research design has been utilized. A standardized questionnaire adopted from the core competencies of CHED has been distributed to the three respondents in the University of Cebu-Banilad evaluating 48 subjects on their latest clinical area exposure. Majority of the subjects were female between 18-21 years old. Performance of nursing students during their area exposure in terms of safe and quality nursing, communication, collaborative and teamwork, health education, legal responsibilities, ethico-moral responsibility and records management denotes a very satisfactory level of performance. Results also revealed that there is no significant relationship between the profile of the subjects and the performance in their clinical area exposure this implies that the performance of the respondents were not dependent on their age and gender. The researchers recommended to conduct more skills enhancement training, seminars on new trends and practices to broaden one's knowledge, and attitude development seminar to sustain the student nurses' level of performance. Also, researchers recommend the future researchers to have a further study which would compare the performance of the students on the different areas during their clinical Area Exposure. |
