Summary: Hypertension is defined as a persistent elevation of systolic blood pressure above 140 mmHg, and a diastolic pressure above 90 mmHg, believed to be caused by increase intake of sodium and lipids, obesity, vices such as smoking, and drinking, stress and atherosclerosis. Hypertension afflicting seven out of 100% Filipinos in the urban areas. This makes the Philippines the number one country in Asia with the highest hypertensive prevalence rate of 3.9 persons 100,000 population. |
