Summary: Being in this medical profession, nursing students are bombarded with lots of responsibilities and requirements especially in the clinical area. Thus, they were exposed to many stressors. Knowing this fact, the researchers choose the third year nursing students as respondents to this study because they are the ones who will have a lot of changes to adapt to. thus, they are facing inevitable stressors. It is imperative that they cope to these new situations and handle effectively new changes and events in their student life. Hence, they can function efficiently in their related learning exposure. Stress can provide the stimulus for change and growth, and in this respect, some stress can be positive. However, too much stress can result to poor judgment, physical illness, and incompetence to cope with stressor. This, study then determined the relationship between stress levels and RLE performances among the level III student nurses of the University of Cebu-Banilad. The researchers wanted to know how each student perceive stress during their clinical exposure and how each of them react with all the various stressors presented to them. The study was upholded by the theory of Hans Selye. His theory focused on the physiologic changes, stress is simply the wear and tear of the body. He proffers the GAS to explain how the body answers to the stessors through tree stages: the alarm reaction stage, the resistance stage, the exhaustion stage. Previous study by Mahat, 1996 indicate that the clinical component of nursing school is the most stressful. In their clinical rotations, students must exhibit a high level of responsibility and accountability in dealing with the patients. |
