Small enterprises significantly impact the Philippine economy as they help stimulate economic growth by providing employment opportunities and contribute to local economies by bringing growth and innovation to the community where they are situated. This study aimed to assess the accounting challenges encountered by small business in Banilad, Cebu City. The proposed Bookkeeping primer guides the small enterprises in incorporating appropriate and proper basic accounting practices in their companies and help them get their bookkeeping on the right track. This research applied the descriptive-survey research method, which was conducted among the DTI-registered small-sized businesses in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City. Respondents of the study were two hundred eleven (211) small business owners and were chosen using the simple random sampling technique. The study utilized a two-part researcher-made questionnaire to gather necessary information on the profile of the respondents and the accounting challenges they faced. Researchers have adhered to the ethical principles o beneficence, non-maleficence, justice and autonomy. The three statistical treatments used to analyze the data were simple percentage, weighted mean and one-way ANOVA. This study revealed that most small business were sole proprietorships and came from different industries. Accounting challenges encountered by small enterprises were less challenging for them as they seldom confronted them. In addition, there is a significant difference in the accounting challenges faced by small-sized firms. This study concluded that most small enterprises struggled to incorporate proper accounting practices into their businesses. The researchers recommended that the output of this study, which is the bookkeeping primer, be adapted and implemented.
