Almost every one of us has learned how to write but despite that, some are still facing writing problems especially when it comes to academic writing. The study aimed to determine the academic writing problems of the Senior High school students taking up Humanities and Social Sciences. The results of this study will be the basis for a proposed learning module to enhance learner's skills in writing.
This study utilized the descriptive-correlational research design. A survey questionnaire was used as the research instrument of the researchers to gather the data. This instrument goes through a dry run method to ensure its effectiveness and reliability. The study used a simple random sampling method to determine the number of respondents. There were 164 enrolled in Senior High school taking up the Humanities and Social Science strand at University of Cebu - Banilad campus in the first semester of the school year 2022-2023, out of the computation using z- score formula the total respondent of the study is 116. The researchers used the frequency count and simple percentage, weighted mean, and chi-square of independence to treat the data in this study.
The study's findings indicate that the majority of the respondents were females who were under the age bracket of 16-17 years old. The majority of the respondents had excellent level of academic performance in English. The respondents assess that their academic writing problems are organization/ sequence, word choice, grammatical error confusion in supporting the ideas, punctuation, and capitalization they experience those writing problems in a few instances. Moreover, there is no significant relationship between the profile respondents and their perceived writing problems." —Abstract
