The study utilized an exploratory research design to better understand the point of view of the informants, and an inductive approach. This study was conducted at selected fast food chains in Cebu City. Fifteen (15) fast food working students were chosen purposely to serve as informants in the study. A revised interview guide was utilized for use in the interviews and underwent content validation. The audio recordings from the interviews were transcribed. The data were analyzed to a thematic analysis. The study complied to research ethical principles such as beneficence, non-maleficence, fairness, and respect for individuals. The elements of credibility, transferability, confirmability, and dependability ensured its trustworthiness.
The study identified seven themes based on the experiences of working students. Within the category of Work and Academic Responsibilities, two themes identified: Time Management Skills as the Key to Balanced Work and Academic Responsibilities, and Sleep Deprivation and Fatigue Caused by Wo Work and Academic Responsibilities. Under Time Management, the theme Rest Days: Personal and Academic Tasks was highlighted. Lastly, in Managing Financial Resources, three themes were identified: Using Their Income is the Key to Cover Their Tuition Fees, Borrowing Money to Cover Other Expenses, and Using Their Income is the Key to Provide Financial Support for Their Family. This study highlights the challenges faced by working students, particularly in managing time, coping with sleep deprivation, and handling financial responsibilities." --Abstract
