"Public confidence in the forensic sciences has waned as a result of a number of sensational criminal cases in the Philippines and overseas involving forensic evidence There are questions being asked about the reliability and accuracy of such evidence. This textbook aims to provide a comprehensive introduction in the field Forensic Ballistics for undergraduate students and reviewees preparing for board examinations. Further, this can also serve as guide to practicing criminologists in the performance of their specific functions. It covers fundamental concepts, theories, and research findings essential for understanding the diverse subfields of Forensic Ballistics.

This handbook was made to show that forensic ballistics examination can be useful and a reliable tool in scientific criminal investigation. It will give you an understanding of its principle, scope and limitations and a ready reference regarding forensic ballistics evidence.

The book is organized into six chapters following the CHED MEMO #5 series of 2018 and contains the Criminology Licensure Examination (CLE) Table of Specification (TOS). each covering a different topic in Forensic Ballistics. It is presented in logical sequence as follows; fundamentals of forensic ballistics chapter 1, different types of firearms-chapter 2, ammunition types, parts and functions- chapter 3, individual and class characteristics, basis for firearms identification- chapter 4, laboratory equipment and tools used in the examination of ballistic exhibits- chapter 5 and nature and characteristics of low and high explosives-chapter 6.

The text is written in a clear and concise style, making complex concepts accessible to students and reviewees with little or sufficient background in Forensic Ballistics. It is presented in an interrogative form, making it easy to recall the topics discussed. The book also includes chapter exercises in multiple-choice questions as study aids. These tools are intended to help students reinforce their learning and prepare for Board Licensure Examination for Criminologists (BLEC).
