The course primarily deals with basic principles in Economics and their application to present issues faced by the Filipino entrepreneur or businessman. The professional subject covers Macroeconomics and socioeconomic issues, as well as business opportunities and ventures that one may enter after finishing the course. Applied Economics is a continuation of Basic Economics in Grade 9, where the student is exposed to Macroeconomic fundamentals and how aggregates work. Unit 1 revisits Economics as a social science and discusses Philippine socioeconomic development in the 21st century. Unit 2 discusses Demand and Supply and the Filipino entrepreneur. Unit 3 is about industry and environmental analysis and identifying business opportunities. Unit 4 details the socioeconomic impact of business on consumers, suppliers, investors, government, households, and international trade, and discusses how to make a socioeconomic impact study. Unit 5 is a guide to help future entrepreneurs start their own small business. If the student decides to continue the business while studying the course in college, he or she already has the technical and operational experience. In such cases where the student sees senior high as a terminal course and will no longer proceed to college, this course is designed to be a complete guide in establishing and managing a business. It is hoped that this textbook will help both teachers and students develop the ability to identify a potential business that is unique and profitable.
