A significant proportion of full-time university students are employed. This study aims to assess the disparities in the academic performance of on-campus and off-campus working students at the University of Cebu-Banilad from 2022-2023. The results of the study are the basis for a proposed brochure for on-campus and off-campus working students that can enhance work-study balance or improve the overall educational experience.
The study employed a descriptive-correlational design with group i participants with a sample size of seventy-four (74); for group 2 participants, the sample size of sixty (60) in total, for a total of one hundred thirty-four (134), and was purposively selected. Referring to the data analysis, frequency count, and simple percentage, the Chi-Square Test and Independent T-Test were used.
The findings revealed that on-campus students were mostly aged 19-20 and 21-22, while off-campus students were predominantly 21-22. More females work on campus. while off-campus, there is a small majority of males. Popular courses vary: BSPsych, BSCRIM. and BEED are common on-campus, while BEED and BSED are popular off-campus. Most on-campus workers are assigned to a Computer Laboratory, Library, or BSBA. The majority of the participants had 1-2 years of work experience. On-campus students usually work for five hours, off-campus for 5-6 hours. Education and telecommunications are the main industries in both groups. The call Center and ESL Teacher roles are common. Part-time work is prevalent, with a significant minority working full time. Many had a short commute, with a working area typically within 3-4 km. Both on-campus and off-campus working students were dominant with a "good" academic performance level and had a shorter percentage of "very good" academic performance level. In terms of age and sex, both on-campus and off-campus displayed no significant relationship and demonstrated a significant relationship with other variables. Moreover, the findings showed no significant difference between the academic performance of on-campus and off-campus students." —Abstract
