"Practical Research 1is a Senior High School Applied Track subject which is taken by students in the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS), and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strands. In the development of this book, the curriculum guide for Practical Research 1 developed by the Department of Education (DepEd) was followed strictly. This book is divided into four units. Unit 1 discusses the nature of inquiry and research. In this unit, the student will learn the definition, importance, ethics, and processes of research and its importance in daily life. In Unit 2, the students will learn to identify a research inquiry, state a research problem, and review related literature. In Unit 3, the student will learn to execute a qualitative research design and find answers to the research problem through data collection. And finally, Unit 4 guides the learner in making a conclusion, giving recommendations, and sharing research findings. The book uses simple language to make concepts easy to grasp. There are activities in some lessons that the students will be asked to do to develop their skills in doing qualitative research. A side from the discussions in the text, there are examples, sample problems, exercises, questions and problems to think about, as well as a chapter summary and a chapter review test. At the end of each chapter, the learners are given a performance task that requires them to apply the concepts they learned from the discussion. This book is learner-centered. The varied activities and exercises are designed to reinforce and expand learning. The performance tasks given to the learners are designed to develop the students' individual skills as well as collaborative thinking. These skills will eventually help the students to be more creative and innovative which will eventually aid them in developing research projects which they can claim ownership of. In using this book, the students will also learn to solve real-life problems by doing hands-on activities that will enable them to apply their research skills to address practical needs in their respective communities." —Preface
