This study aimed to determine the reading proficiency of the 7th grade public high school students. There are four different reading skills which were being studied. These skills are noting details, getting the main idea, inference and vocabulary. Moreover, the study determined the significant relationship among the reading skills. The study used descriptive correlational design. The 40 participants were randomly chosen from the 102 students in the grade 7 of public high school located in a mountain barangay. The data were gathered through an adapted reading proficiency test questionnaire to identify the students reading proficiency. Statistical treatments used for data analysis were simple frequency and person r. Based on the findings, the students had a poor reading proficiency. Moreover, there was a significant relationship among the following paired reading skills: noting details and getting the idea, noting details and inference and getting the main idea and inference. On the other hand, there was no significant relationship between these paired reading skills: noting details and vocabulary, and getting the main idea and vocabulary and inference and vocabulary. Therefore, the students reading proficiency needed to be improved. The researchers recommended the implementation of the proposed remedial program to address the problem.
