This study aims to determine the vocabulary proficiency in the English language of the first-year students both BSED and BEED of the college of teacher education. Vocabulary profile of the respondents regarding age, gender and type of the last school attended, vocabulary proficiency level and the significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and their level of vocabulary proficiency and what vocabulary enhancement program will be proposed.This study utilized the descriptive-correlation design in determining the respondents' vocabulary proficiency. There are seventy-six respondents in the study by using the stratified sampling technique. A standardized test tool was used in the study. The study was conducted at the University of Cebu-Banilad campus. The respondents were asked to fill in the profile form and answer the vocabulary test. The researchers used simple percentage, chi-square, and contingency coefficient in analyzing the data. The findings of the study showed that majority of the students were generally got fair in terms of synonyms, antonyms, definition of terms, and meaning in context. In addition, the results revealed that there is no significant relationship between the age, gender and type of last school attended profile of the respondents to the level of vocabulary to develop and enhance their skills. Hence, a proposed intervention plan which is '' vocabulary enhancement program'' is recommended.
