It is vital in all subject areas because in every lesson there is always a need for reading and comprehending of text. It is alarming that students reading proficiency in the Philippines and other countries is declining and is affecting their performance in school. It is possible that this mediocre performance is due to their low level of reading proficiency.The study attempted to investigate the relationship of language reading proficiency and academic achievement. This study utilized descriptive-correlation research design to determine the correlation of language reading proficiency and academic performance. The researchers used a standardized test from MSA Civil Service Reviewer for Professional and Sub-Professional the Millenial Edition for data gathering. Statistical treatments used for data analysis were percentages, frequency, and contigency coefficient, Cramers V, and P-values. The last three were used to determine the significant relationship between profile and language reading proficiency, profile and grade point average and language reading proficiency and grade point average. Based on the findings, most of the respondents were aged 18-20 years old, which belongs to the late adolescents stage. Majority of the respondents were female. Most of the respondents were performing well academically. Most of the respondents were not proficient in reading. There is no relationship between age category and language reading proficiency. There is no relationship between age category and grade point average proficiency. There is no relationship between respondents gender and grade point average proficiency.
