It is important to take into consideration on equipping these nursing students with knowledge and skills in order that they can become effective nurses in the future. Student nurses wanted to be recognized as Registered nurses, attains recognition as health care provider, ensures professional growth and advancement and interest in the job. It is important to promote the best interest of these Level I nursing students taking up Nursing course at the X University in order to boost the morale of the students in the improvement of their academic performance through identifying the factors that affect the motivation of the students to become nurses in the future-recognizing their role in provision of health care services and as well as enjoy the opportunities for self-fulfillment and growth or advancement. It is through this research that sheds light to the level I nursing students that there is a need to assess the different motivational factors and the status academic performance in the process of equipping them with the necessary skills in three domains: cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills in the process of accomplishing or achieving something. It takes into consideration the different traits and qualities that the level I nursing students need to ensure self-fulfillment, social recognition, job opportunities and the like knowing that they already possess the needed competencies and skills that would be an asset to the hospital service milieu. Hence, this study is undertaken with the end view that the researchers would discuss the motivational factors and academic performance of the Level I students at X University and envisions for intervention programs to promote the best interest of these students.
