N2  - "This research investigated on the lived experiences of fish brokers (Tarima business owners) in Pasil Fish Port, Cebu City, focusing on the challenges they face in their daily operations and the strategies they employ to overcome them. Pasil Fish Port plays a vital role in fish trading as it is the one of the major hubs in various regions and contributes significantly to the local food supply and economy. Understanding the lived experiences of fish brokers in this fast-paced setting is necessary to determine challenges and opportunities in the fish trading system.
This study utilized a qualitative phenomenological design to understand the lived experiences of fish brokers (Tarima business owners). After obtaining the needed permissions of 12 key informants, data were collected through in-depth interview conducted in Pasil Fish Port, Cevu City with 12 key informants selected through purposive sampling technique with adherence to the ethical principles in research. To identify recurring themes and patterns, thematic analysis was utilized.
The findings were categorized into major themes: (1) Lived Experiences of Fish Brokers: Fish Preservation and Handling, Fish Broker — Fish Topper Agreements (Credit & Payment), Supply and Demand Fluctuations (Pricing), Seasonality of Fish (Availability); (2) Challenges they faced in their daily operations: Maintaining Freshness, Managing Distribution, Adapting to Price Fluctuations, Coping with Seasonality (3) Strategies they employ to overcome challenges: Ice Preservations and Quick Handling Practices, Prioritization and Credit Control, Supply and Demand Negotiation Strategies, Supply Management Strategies." --Abstract
