"Shift work is a common requirement in nursing but is associated with disruptions in circadian rhythm, reduced recovery time, and increased susceptibility to fatigue. This study examined the relationship between shift work and physical, mental, and emotional fatigue among nurses at the University of Cebu Medical Center. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, 120 nurses from the Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, and Medical-Surgical Ward were surveyed using the Three-Dimensional Work Fatigue Inventory (3D-WFI) and selected items from the Job Demands-Resources Questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential analyses, including ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis tests, and Pearson correlation, were conducted. Results showed that nurses experienced moderate levels of physical, mental, and emotional fatigue, with night-shift and rotating-shift nurses exhibiting significantly higher fatigue scores than those on daytime schedules. Departmental differences were also noted, with ICU nurses reporting the highest overall fatigue. A significant negative correlation was found between fatigue frequency and perceived availability of job resources. These findings highlight the importance of optimizing shift schedules and strengthening workplace support systems to mitigate fatigue and promote nurse well-being." —Abstract Adult adult Cindy Marie L.
