This research is motivated by the need for a safer, natural, and environmentally friendly product. The study aims to explore the efficacy and repellency of garlic (Allium sativum) and ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) as natural alternatives to chemical insect repellents against cockroaches (Blattodea). The experiment tested different mixtures of garlic and ginger extracts, focusing on repellency rather than extermination.

The study employed an experimental quantitative method using one-way ANOVA and t-tests. Results showed that higher concentrations of garlic and ginger increased repellency due to their strong odor. The mixture of 50g garlic, 100g ginger, and 100 mL carrier oil had the highest repellency, while the combination of 100g garlic and 100g ginger with 200 mL carrier oil showed the most incidental killing effect. Compared to a commercial repellent, the Garlinger Repellent (GG Spray) performed similarly, with a milder odor.
