However, the relationship between probation officers and absconding probationers presents a significant challenge. When probationers evade supervision by failing to report or comply with conditions, it disrupts the rehabilitative process, endangers public safety, and strains the probation system. To better understand these challenges from the officers' perspectives, this study employed a descriptive phenomenological research design to explore the lived experiences of probation officers in monitoring absconding probationers at Cebu City Parole and Probation Offices Nos. 1 and 2. This approach allowed for an in-depth examination of their perceptions, strategies, and coping mechanisms within their actual work context.

This study examined the lived experiences of probation officers in Cebu City face when tracking probationers who have gone missing. Guided by the emergent themes Echoes of Vigilance, which reflects the constant monitoring and alertness required of officers; Resilience in Bloom, which highlights their coping strategies and professional endurance; and Circles of Impact, which emphasizes collaboration and the broader effects of their work, this research explored how officers navigate the demands of supervision and enforcement. Probation allowed offenders to reintegrate into society under supervision instead of serving time in prison. However, some probationers failed to follow their conditions or disappear, making it difficult for officers to enforce the law and ensure public safety

The findings of this research highlighted the urgent need for better tracking methods, stronger teamwork with law enforcement, and additional resources to support probation officers. Addressing these issues could improve the probation system in Cebu City, making it more effective in monitoring probationers and ensuring public safety.
