N2  - "Distance education is remote learning wherein students learn without the physical presence of a teacher nor in a classroom. The study aims to determine the challenges of tourism management students in a university as a basis in formulating an intervention plan. It applied the descriptive-correlational research design, utilizing a researcher-made survey tool as a main instrument of gathering data. The research site was at the University of Cebu-Banilad Campus, Cebu City. Using random sampling technique 150 respondents were tourism management students. Percentage, Weighted Mean, and Chi-Square were used for data analysis.
The findings revealed that the majority of the respondents were aged between 19-21 years old. Most of them were 1s year students. The majority of them were females.
The tourism management students strongly agreed with the challenges on distance education in terms of access to a stable internet connection, university tuition and miscellaneous fees,
stress, and pressure due to online school requirements, and
motivation and self-discipline in the distance education set-up. There is a significant relationship between the respondent's year level and location on the challenges of tourism management students. Results showed that there was no significant relationship between the profile of the students and the challenges in distance education. Therefore, there is a need for the academic institution to implement an Intervention Plan to address the learning and challenges of the students which would be crucial to the future career of the tourism students." —Abstract
