TI - Proficiency in interpersonal communication skills among student nurses of University of Cebu- Banilad PY - 2011/// CY - Cebu City PB - University of Cebu N1 - Includes bibliographical references N2 - Summary: The researcher conducted this study to find out what level of proficiency in interpersonal communication skill among the student nurses of the University of Cebu- Banilad Campus. This research study utilized the descriptive correlational research design using a modified researcher made questionnaire from a standardized tool to determine the level of proficiency in interpersonal communication competence among student nurses. The design helped the researchers in the data gathering in terms of what level of proficiency in interpersonal communication skill is dominant to student nurses of University of Cebu- Banilad Campus, whether its novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert level of proficiency. It is a means of weighing all level proficiency in interpersonal communication skills and the highest percentage is considered the most dominant to all student nurses. The research respondents of the study were the 25 clinical instructors of the irregular level IV student nurses who were having extension duty on the different affiliated hospitals from March 19 to 21, 2011 from sections FF, GG, HH and II who are currently enrolled in the Nursing Program of University of Cebu- Banilad College of Nursing. The researchers concluded that majority of the respondents were female who belong to the age bracket 19-22 years old. On the other result, there was no significant relationship between level of proficiency in interpersonal communication skills and the respondent's profile as to age and gender. This implies that age and gender does not play a significant role in the level of proficiency in interpersonal communication skills among the student nurses, the researcher concluded that the most dominant proficiency in interpersonal communication skills is advance beginner among student nurses of University of Cebu- Banilad Campus. Based on the findings, the researchers strongly recommend a seminar to be conducted for student nurses of University of Cebu- Banilad on what specific factor that could help them develop their interpersonal communication skills and to have this as an instrument to develop a wholesome relationship towards other people ER -
