TI - A survey on the incidence of absenteeism among nurses at "X" hospital from January 1991 - July 1993 PY - 1993/// CY - Cebu City PB - University of Cebu N1 - Thesis (Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing) -- University of Cebu-Banilad, 1993 N2 - Summary:Absenteeism is one of the crucial problems that every employee has to deal with. Hospital institution with its high degree of specialization and interdependence of operation requires the regular attendance of all workers. The life of a patient could not be gambled just because of the absence of doctors, nurses and other health workers. Absenteeism refers to the worker's failure to report from his regular task when he is normally scheduled for work. A high rate of absenteeism is costly in terms of both agency expenditures and employees morale. Thus, for a shift if one duty nurse is absent it is very difficult to replace another one because the roles and responsibilities of the duty nurse to be replaced will be disrupted leading to a more complex situation. On the other hand, the substitute worker is often unfamiliar with the task to be performed and there will be a greater possibility of committing errors and in-efficiencies as she performs the job. The increasing rate of absenteeism among health workers specially the nurse prompted us to conduct a survey on the causes of the identified problem. In this manner, we would unravel the causes and hopefully be able to recommend an intervention plan which can minimize if not to prevent the incidence of absenteeism. As student nurses we could help in one way or another to minimize this discrepancy by making them aware of the existing problem and through this, may be able to minimize the occurence of absenteeism through putting into action the recommend plan of action in their respective area of assignments or the organization in general ER -
