The perception of local residents toward social economic and environmental impact of tourist destinations in Barangay Parian / Dannah Mae Acdal.

This study examines the local residents' perceptions about social , economic, and environmental impact of tourist sites in Barangay Parian Cebu City, such as Cebu Heritage , Yap San Diego House and Jesuit House. This study utilized the descriptive-correlation research design with the use of a researchers-made questionnaires as the primary tool for gathering data. There were 316 local residents who participated in the survey. Statistical treatments used for data analysis were simple percentage, weighted mean, and Chi-Square test of Independence. Majority of the respondents were 12-25 years old, females and singles. The result further shows that the local residents in Barangay Parian are proud of the Cebu City's historical sites that represent as the living evidence of the past which lead them to interact more with the tourists who visited the sites. These tourism sites provide additional income to the local residents from the job opportunities and the opportunities to operate small businesses around its vicinity such as selling of souvenir items. For environmental impact, the local residents believed that the tourism sites have not yet created enough plans to increase the awareness of the environment near the vicinity of the tourism sites. Traffic congestion, air and noise pollution, cleanliness and lack of facilities were found to be the negative aspect. this leads to the proposal for the collaboration of the tourist sites' management and Brgy. officials to empowering residents in protecting the tourist sites and help in maintaining the environment.
