Family communication patterns refer to the overall structure and style of communication within the respondents' families, encompassing both conformity and conversation orientations. By fostering open, honest, and supportive communication, families can create a nurturing environment that promotes growth, resilience, and strong interpersonal bonds. This study aimed to examine the family communication patterns of non-STEM students pursuing nursing programs at the University of Cebu-Banilad.
This study used descriptive-correlational research design to analyze the family communication dynamics of first-year non-STEM nursing students at the University of Cebu-Banilad campus. The researchers utilized a standardized questionnaire of Koerner and Fitzpatrick. In treating the data, percentages, weighted means, and the Chi-square tests of independence were used. The researchers ensured that the core principles of beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and autonomy were followed throughout the study proceedings.
The study revealed that most of the respondents were aged 19 years old, females, and took the Accountancy and Business Management [ABM] strand during their SHS years. Moreover, it was found that more of the participants exhibited a laissez-faire communication pattern. Furthermore, there is no significant correlation between respondents' demographic profiles and their family communication patterns. Therefore, factors beyond demographic characteristics may shape familial interactions among this cohort, warranting further exploration.
