"These guidelines for developing and planning nursing care for the hospitalized patient have been formulated to provide the nurse with needed information quickly and easily. They cover medical conditions, surgical interventions, diagnostic procedures, chemotherapeutic agents, and related supportive mechanical equipment. They have been divided according to body system with additional sections on obstetrics and pediatrics. Patient care standards are needed to ensure that the patient's right to consistently excellent nursing care is met.
