Researchers wanted to know the informants' initial reaction upon confirming that they have HIV, how they see themselves after knowing about their condition and listen to their testimonies. It also explores the positive and negative attitude in dealing with this situation. Lastly, this helps control the spread of the virus by giving information about its nature.
The study utilized qualitative type of research, phenomenological approach to explore and understand the lived experiences from a participant's point of view. It involves in-depth interviews with the participants and provides a detailed description of human experiences of the "People living with HIV in Cebu City".
Major themes emerged describing how informants' lived changed after knowing the diagnosis.They fear of being stigmatized especially from their loved ones had come up. How they handled and managed themselves to have a positive outlook towards their condition. Realizations, regrets and acceptance were some of the things they had attained.
The researchers recommendation involved to make a more collaborative effort to include informants who are less connected with the community support groups. The health governing bodies of the country to encourage all citizens for an HIV test regardless of individual's susceptibility. Lastly to explore how people with HIV received support from their family and how the support affects the value and meanings of their lives.
