This study employed the descriptive-correlational research design. Using Cochran's formula, a stratified random sample of two hundred twenty-five (225) respondents was selected. This study was conducted at the University of Cebu-Banilad, the University of Cebu-Main, and the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue. The researchers utilized a researcher-made questionnaire to measure positive childhood experiences and a modified Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test to measure emotional intelligence. In treating the data, frequency, percentage, weighted mean, Chi-square test, and Pearson R were used. The researchers ensured that ethical considerations such as beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and autonomy were upheld and adhered to throughout the research.
The findings revealed that respondents had moderately high levels of positive childhood experiences and above-average levels of emotional intelligence. Demographic factors like sex and family structure (family size and living arrangements) were found to have a significant relationship with positive childhood experiences, while no direct association was found with emotional intelligence. A moderate positive correlation was found between positive childhood experiences and emotional intelligence. Thus, early childhood experiences play a pivotal role in the development of emotional intelligence, underscoring the importance of nurturing environments in fostering empathy, self-awareness, and emotional regulation, which are valuable for personal and professional growth. An emotional intelligence enrichment program plan for fourth-year hospitality management students was created in line with the findings." —Abstract
