Summary: Summary: The researchers are conducting this study to determine the pursuance of the Clinical Instructors in the University of Cebu- Banilad and their capability to do research. A proposed Faculty Development program maybe useful to reinforce their pursuance of graduate education, and enhance their research capability. According to Malcolm Knowles (1990), the single most important thing in helping adults to learn is to create a climate of physical comfort, mutual trust and respect, openness and acceptance of differences. By responding to the need of the learner, and providing the learning resources, teachers facilitate learning. (McEwan and Wills, 2002). The Problem This study determined the pursuance of graduate education and the research capability of the clinical instructor of UC- Banilad for SY 2007-2008, the findings of which will be the basis for a proposed faculty development program. Specifically, it answered the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the clinical instructor in relation to: 1.1 age; 1.2 gender; 1.3 educational attainment? 2. What is the level of pursuance of graduate education and research capability among the clinical instructors? 3. Is there a significant difference in the pursuance of graduate education research capability in terms of: 3.1 age; 3.2 gender; 3.3 educational attainment? 4. Is there a significant difference in the level of research capability of clinical instructors in terms of: 4.1 age; 4.2 gender; 4.3 educational attainment? 5. Is there a significant relationship between level of pursuance of graduate education of the clinical instructors and their research capability? 6. Based on the findings of the study, what faculty development program can be proposed? Statement of the Null Hypothesis There is no significant difference between the pursuance of graduate education and the research capability of the clinical instructors. Significance of the Study The administration will provide the administration the effective reinforcement and strategies so as to provide clinical instructors educational development. The clinical instructors will be encouraged to pursue graduate education and improve their skills in conducting research. Research Methodology A 4-point Likert Scale questionnaire was distributed to 104 level 2,3, and 4 clinical instructors of University of Cebu- Banilad, located at Gov. Cuenco Ave. A pre-test was conducted to 10 clinical instructor of UC-Lapu-Lapu-Mandaue. Summary of Findings As to age, majority (66.35%) of the clinical instructors belonged to the age bracket of 21 to 30 years old. Most (73.08%) of the clinical instructors are female. Majority (87.50%) of the clinical instructors have earned their masteral units. Level of pursuance of clinical instructors as to graduate education revealed that over-all mean was rated agree (3.19). This means that majority agree to pursuance post graduate studies. The research capability of clinical instructors as to graduate education revealed that over-all mean was rated disagree (2.44). This means that majority of the clinical instructors perceived themselves as not capable enough to conduct research. With a computed F value of 2.130, and a critical F value of 2.696, tested at 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis was accepted therefore there was no significant difference in the pursuance of the graduate education in terms of age of the clinical instructors. With a computed F value of 2.621, and a critical F value of 2.696, tested at 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis was accepted therefore there was no significant difference in the research capability of clinical instructors in terms of age. With a computed t value of 2.696, and a critical t value of 0.101, tested at 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, there was no significant difference in the pursuance of graduate education in terms of gender. With a computed t value of 0.907, and a critical t value of 2.009, tested at 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, there was no significant difference in the research capability of the clinical instructors in terms of gender. With a computed F value of 2.559, and a critical F value of 3.089, tested at 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, there was no significant difference in the pursuance of graduate education in terms of educational attainment of the clinical instructors. With a computed F value of 13452, and a critical F value of 3.086, tested at 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, there was no significant difference in the research capability in terms of educational attainment of the clinical instructors. With a computed r value of 0.0639, and a critical r value of 0.195, tested at 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, there was no significant relationship between the pursuance of graduate education and the research capability of the clinical instructors. Further, there was a slight positive correlation. Conclusion Majority of the clinical instructors agree to pursue post graduate studies. However, majority of the clinical instructors perceived themselves as not capable enough to conduct research. Pursuance to graduate education does not affect research capability of the clinical instructor.
