501 _aThesis (Degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing) -- University of Cebu- Banilad, 2018.
520 _aSummary: This study determined the needs in family planning counseling of BSN III and IV students of University of Cebu- Banilad. Specifically, this study determined the profile of the student nurses in terms of age, civil status, number of times doing family planning counseling, teaching experience (professional and non- professional), and year level. This study utilized descriptive- correlational research design. There were 64 respondents (all from the level III and IV) who were officially enrolled in the second semester and we got the thirty percent of the total population as our respondents that were given questionnaires. Simple Random Sampling method was used. A researcher- made questionnaire was utilized using Simple Percentage to determine the age and year level of the respondents. Moreover, it was used to determine the knowledge, skills, and attitude when respondents are grouped according to their profile. Chi- square Test of Independence and Cramer's V were employed to explore the relationship between the profile of the respondents and their training needs in family planning counselling. The findings revealed that the majority of the respondents belonged to age ranging 18-20 years old, all respondents were single, have teaching experience, and did family planning counselling five times or more. In the knowledge portion of the training needs of the respondents, the result showed that they had poor knowledge in the concept of family planning. The family planning counseling training needs of students in terms of skills were categorized into three: 1. Communication 2. Making of Visual Aid and 3. Use of effective Teaching Strategies. Under the category of Communication. Cebuano was the priority training need for language while mastery on the concept of family planning for expression of ideas. Moreover, in looking for teaching materials, searching videos has the most number of responses as the topmost priority while in finding for learning materials through the internet had a 24 out of 64 responses during the survey. Meanwhile, the respondents found lecture and/ or discussion as their primary training need in using effective teaching strategies wherein almost half of the respondents ranked it first among the other options. Lastly, in the attitude portion, building rapport in order to promote client's cooperation ranked first. Only looking for teaching materials specifically leaflets, brochures, and Manila paper as well as the age towards the attitude of suspending judgements on client's beliefs, practices and traditions have significant relationship with age. Moreover, the students' year level and their knowledge, expression of giving opinions, exchanging ideas, looking for videos, and finding film clips yielded a significant relationship. The action plan would provide support in the attainment of the respondents' training needs especially in improving their knowledge, skills, and attitude in doing family planning counselling. As a result of this study, the researchers recommend to the future researchers who have interests in this research topic and would want to further research, to update the training needs of students in doing family planning counseling among BSN III & IV students and to implement the proposed action plan.
