520 _a"In today's digitally connected world, social media has become a central platform for communication, particularly among the youth. This study aimed to assess the relationship between social media utilization and social connection among Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management students at the University of Cebu-Banilad. Specifically, it sought to determine the types of social media used, hours spent, and primary activities on social media, as well as the participants' level of social connection. The study also investigated whether a significant relationship existed between social media usage and perceived social connection. Findings from this study served as the basis for the development of a proposed infographic to visually present the results. A descriptive-associational research design was utilized to examine the association between social media usage and social connection. The sample size of two hundred sixty (260) students was determined using Cochran's formula and was selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using modified questionnaires that focused on students' social media habits and their levels of perceived social connection. The study was conducted among Tourism Management students at UC-Banilad. The collected data were statistically analyzed to determine the relationships and significance between variables. The results revealed no statistically significant relationship between social media utilization and social connection. The p-values for types of social media used (0.617), hours spent (0.984), and primary activities (0.899) all exceeded the 0.05 significance level. Cramér's V values (0.170, 0.082, and 0.070) indicated weak to very weak associations. These findings suggested that while social media was widely used, it did not significantly influence the students' sense of social connection. The results served as the foundation for the development of an infographic that communicated these insights." —Abstract
