520 _a""Sleep concerns and academic stress are emerging as significant concerns among university students, particularly within engineering programs. As engineering courses are frequently exposed to demanding academic workloads, students often face heightened stress levels and sleep deprivation, which negatively impact their academic performance and overall well-being. This study aims to investigate the relationship between sleep quality and academic stress, specifically among Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering students at the University of Cebu-Main Campus, providing a foundation for the development of a wellness program designed to improve sleep quality and stress management. The study employed a descriptive correlational research design to investigate the quality of sleep and levels of academic stress among the respondents. The study was conducted at the University of Cebu-Main Campus with 318 respondents using modified survey questionnaires measuring sleep quality and academic stress. The data gathered were treated using simple frequency and percentage, weighted mean, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Ethics and principles of research were strictly adhered to throughout the research process, ensuring compliance with the principles of beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and autonomy. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant but weak positive correlation between sleep quality and academic stress, with students' reports having poor quality of sleep and moderately high academic stress. This suggests that as academic stress increases, sleep quality tends to worsen, although the relationship is not strong enough to imply a direct causal relationship. These results highlight the importance of addressing academic stressors that may contribute to sleep disturbances, as both factors can negatively impact the academic performance and overall well-being of the students." —Abstract
