This book, authored by my dear friend Dr. Richard Jonathan O. Taduran (whom we fondly refer to as "RJ"), embodies these principles and stands as a testament to the transformative power of research in forensic science. RJ and I share more than just a professional passion; our bond goes back to our shared roots as alumni of the Philippine Science High School (Pisay). Coincidentally, we also share the same birthday, a lighthearted reminder of our parallel paths in the pursuit of scientific excellence. Over the years, I have witnessed RJ almost singlehandedly carry the torch for forensic science in the Philippines, continually pushing boundaries and establishing new standards for the discipline. His dedication, evident throughout this book, reflects his relentless drive to elevate forensic science in our country. The value of this book lies not only in its thorough coverage of research methodologies but also in its focus on the unique challenges faced by forensic researchers in the Philippines. Limited funding, outdated infrastructure, and a shortage of specialized training often impede the progress of local forensic research. Yet, RJ's experience and resilience shine through as he offers practical strategies to hurdle these challenges. He underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, drawing from his own experiences of building connections across various scientific domains, both nationally and internationally.
