520			_a"This study examined the workload and public safety functions of Barangay Public Safety Volunteers [BPSOS] in Barangay Guba, Cebu City, recognizing their vital role in maintaining community peace and order within barangay governance. As frontline public safety actors, BPSOS perform diverse and demanding duties that directly influence community security, often amid increasing safety demands and limited institutional support. By exploring their lived experiences, the study aims to address gaps in understanding their operational challenges and support needs, providing insights to strengthen community-based public safety services. Employed a qualitative phenomenological study design, the research investigated the experiences of eight ( Barangay Public Safety Volunteers [BPSOs] with at least three (3) years of service in Barangay Guba, Cebu City. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews focusing on workload, operational challenges, community interactions, and perceptions of public safety functions. The data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-phase thematic analysis with an inductive approach to identify patterns related to community peacekeeping and barangay governance. The findings showed that BPSOs carried out multiple public safety functions, including roving patrols, conflict mediation, and first-response actions during incidents and emergencies. These responsibilities resulted in a demanding workload, compounded by limited human resources, logistical constraints, and physical and emotional strain. The study recommended strengthening institutional and logistical support, providing structured training, enhancing inter-agency coordination, and establishing wellness programs to ensure sustainable and effective community peacekeeping in Barangay Guba, Cebu City." —Abstract
