In this book, the readers will gain knowledge of how science, technology, and society intertwine with one another. The discussion started by showing how the three concepts are connected. There is also a chapter that will bring us back to the different historical inventions and how technology developed through time. Even though our society is almost at its peak of technological advancement, this book abo invites readers to reflect on what it means to live a good life and how various factors contribute to or hinder this pursuit. By understanding the essence of flourishing, we can better navigate our journeys and contribute to a world where more people can experience true well-being. In the present society, the pursuit of a good life faces numerous obstacles. Rapid technological advancements, societal pressures, and environmental changes present both opportunities and challenges for achieving well-being. Among these advancements, nanotechnology genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and gene therapy stand out as transformative forces with significant implications for human flourishing which we envisioned for our students to understand. Because of the continuous changes in our students, we also want our students to become aware of the needs of our environment, the problem and the solution that they can do to help in rebuilding our Mother Earth. To become a real steward who's protecting the planet we live on. STS is a field of study that explores the connections between scientific progress, technological developments, and changes in society. Since its establishment in the mid-20th century, it has experienced growth, with a particular emphasis on examining the impact of social, cultural, and political factors on scientific knowledge and technical advancements. Throughout history, significant technological breakthroughs such as the printing press, steam engine, and internet have resulted in dramatic societal changes. Currently, STS research is particularly pertinent as it concentrates on the ethical, social, and political consequences of developing technologies such as artificial intelligence, biotechnological progress, and digital technology. By comprehending the intricate relationship between science, technology, and society, we can more effectively manage the complexities and possibilities in our progressively technological environment. The chapter is organized into four main sections. The first section is about the general concepts and historical development in STS. The second section examines STS and the human condition. The third section delves into the specific issues in ST'S. The final section discusses biodiversity and environmental awareness. This book is intended for all college students who have an STS subject. It aims to provide a clear and thorough understanding of STS. It also provides foundational knowledge and critical perspectives on topics ranging from historical case studies of technological revolutions to contemporary issues. Clear explanations and illustrative examples are used to facilitate comprehension without sacrificing depth. It offers diverse perspectives that can enrich classroom discussions and assignments, encouraging students to think critically about the societal impacts of scientific and technological developments. Ultimately, this chapter aims to foster a thoughtful dialogue on how societies navigate technological change, ethical dilemmas, and societal impacts. This book employs an interdisciplinary approach to examine the complex interactions between ST'S. It is also designed following the principles of outcome-based education (OBE). The contents, activities and assessments will help the students to think critically and to assist them to become ready for future endeavors. Through writing this book, we aim to share our passion for STS and contribute to the ongoing discourse on the ethical, social, and political dimensions of technological advancements.
